Kean University FAQ

Who is eligible to use KeanLift?

KeanLift is open to all faculty, staff and students at Kean University who are raising money for University-based and affiliated initiatives and projects.  KeanLift cannot be used to fund independent business or charity ventures, regardless of whether or not the people leading those ventures are members of the Kean community.


When are KeanLift applications due?

Applications are currently being accepted.


How do groups access the fund they raise?

All KeanLift projects will keep any funds raised even if the goal isn’t achieved.  Funds will only be deposited in Kean University Foundation accounts.  Foundation staff will work with the project team leaders/volunteers and, where appropriate, establish appropriate accounts to make sure a proper University disbursement authority is in place.


Who decides that a project will be added to KeanLift?

The Kean University Foundation staff will review applications and approve them based on project essentials: team commitment, project appeal and goal achievement potential.


How much information do I need to provide on the application?

Provide as much as possible.  It is easier to assess project potential if you answer each question specifically and explain why you possess the tools to run a successful crowdfunding project.  Projects must be able to appeal to a broader audience and have the potential to become viral on social media.  In your application, explain how your group is unique and what you would do with the fund that you raise.


What is an appropriate funding goal for projects?

KeanLift recommends a fundraising goal between $1,000 and $10,000.  We will consider each projects goal on a case-by-case basis.


Is my payment secure?

YES!  Blackbaud Merchant Services is a PCI-compliant solution.  It features the Blackbaud Vault, which encrypts sensitive information and keeps your credit card data secure by removing all of the risks associated with storing card information.  Blackbaud Merchant Services also provides comprehensive screening for detecting payment card fraud through a premium Fraud Management service.


Will my KeanLift project be tax-deductible?

Contributions to KeanLift projects support specific areas of the Kean University and are tax-deductible as allowed by law.


Can I send a gift by mail or phone?

It is preferred that gifts to KeanLift projects be submitted online.  Please contact us for more information about how to submit gifts offline.

Who oversees KeanLift?

The Kean University Foundation manages KeanLift.


May I use a different crowdfunding platform?

Scalefunder is the only approved crowdfunding platform for philanthropic giving to Kean University.  Please contact the Kean University Foundation before using another crowdfunding site.
